  1. D’Angelo Russell: 6’5 Point Guard/Shooting Guard-19.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 1.6 SPG, FG 46%

Russ is an interesting player to me. I’ve got him at number three in the draft. He’s a 6’5 combo guard with a 6’9 wingspan that can put up points in bunches. Russ can shoot the 3 ball, and has a consistent mid-range game.  He has a hint of Curry, and Harden in him. In part because he’s a lefty like Harden, and he can get to the hole and drive the lane smooth and get you with his crossover like Harden. He can either play off the ball or pull up from 3 on the dribble and mid-range like Curry which tends to keep defenders on their toes. Russ isn’t the quickest guard and doesn’t have that killer first step, but he tends to outsmart players on the court, which makes up for him not being the fastest guard. It also helps that every time he gets on the court he believes that he’s the best player there; confidence is key in a player. Not to mention he has killer handles.

D’Angelo has a great feel for passing the ball. Very creative with his passing and puts spin on the ball which makes for some fun creativity in his passes. He tends to see the play before it happens which plays in part of his basketball IQ being advance at such a young age. His freakish wingspan length certainly helped him during his collegiate career against double teams and will help him on the next level. He was able to use that length in his wingspan to create an opportunity for the open man or get the ball out to another man when he was in trouble.

Cons: Considering that he’s a 6’5 guard and will be up against the best of them in the NBA, his lateral quickness, along with his speed could be a concern when guarding the quickest guards in the association. Don’t get me wrong Russ isn’t slow, but he isn’t as fast as everyone would like him to be. Another con would be that he was in a system where he was able to chunk up shots left from right.
