NBA Acknowledges Mistake Call During Lakers Game
- Updated: November 15, 2015
The NBA have made comment on the foul call which was put on Roy Hibbert, during the Lakers game against the Dallas Mavericks.
In a segment featured daily entitled, “Last Two Minute Report”, the league admits that they got it wrong. The play was a crucial one, in which Roy Hibbert fouled Zaza Pachulia with 45.8 seconds left in the game.
With a little over a minute left, the Mavs held an 86-82 lead over the Lakers when the center was called for a foul, which marked his sixth, and he was out of the game.
The Los Angeles Times explains it like this,
“Pachulia hit one of two free throws. Kobe Bryant rushed a three-point attempt on the next possession. Metta World Peace was able to steal the rebound from Pachulia, but he too missed a shot behind the arc and Dallas pulled away in the final seconds, winning 90-82.”
If Hibbert had been able to stay in the game for the Lakers, they would have kept the possession and had a chance to close out the game with a win.
Another mistake was corrected by the NBA. The one which happened with 1:53 left on the clock on an out-of-bounds call said to be on the Mavs, and was rewarded to the Lakers. It turns out that the call should have been on the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, and Mavs should have received the ball.
As we know the league issues reports assessing all calls, and non-calls, over the final two minutes given the score is within five points with two minutes of the game’s end.
