Nats Overpower Padres 8-5

Bryce Harper and the Washington Nationals overpowered the San Diego Padres 8-5 on Thursday night. With the loss the Padres have lost five out of the last six games.
For the Padres Erik Johnson got the start. He pitched 6 innings allowing 7 hits and 5 runs, while allowing 2 walks and striking out 2. He also allowed 3 home runs and picked up his 4th loss of the year.
On the other side Tanner Roark got the start. He pitched 6 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 runs, while allowing 2 walks and striking out 5. He allowed a home run and picked up his 6th win of the year.
The Padres started off the offense in the first inning when Matt Kemp hit a RBI single that brought in Travis Jankowski. Melvin Upton Jr. followed with a RBI single that brought in Wil Myers and the Padres held a 2-0 lead after the first.
In the second inning Stephen Drew hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Will Ramos. This cut the lead to 2-1.
Harper hit a two run shot in the third inning that brought in Jayson Werth and gave the Nats a 3-2 lead. Ramos followed with a solo shot and after three the Nats led 4-2.
Myers hit a solo shot in fifth inning to to trim the lead to 4-3. Anthony Rendon hit a solo home run to push the lead to 5-3.
Christian Bethancourt grounded out to short that brought in Upton to trim the lead back to 5-4. Clint Robinson hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Ben Revere to push the lead to 6-4 in the 7th.
In the 9th Revere scored on a throwing error, and Harper followed with a RBI single. Kemp hit a sacrifice but that would be last of the comeback. Shawn Kelley came on in the 9th inning and picked up his 2nd save of the year.
