According to Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun the Calgary Flames and the Los Angeles Kings are discussing a deal that would send Mike Richards to the Flames.

Richards was waived on Monday by the Kings due to his lack of production and large contract. He was able to clear waivers and was then assigned to the AHL Manchester Monarchs.

The Calgary Flames are one of the few teams  in the league that have salary cap space. However, just because the Flames have the cap space doesn’t mean they will just take on Richards contract for nothing.

In order for the Kings to move Richards the Flames might ask for draft picks or another player to make the deal more appealing.

For the Kings getting rid of Richards will help the cap but they are also looking for blueline help. With Slava Voynov being out the Kings have struggled in that area.

Richards is just 29-years-old and some team out there believes he has plenty left in the tank. It will be interesting to see what the Kings do with the fallen hero.
