Matt Kemp Leads Padres Pass Rockies 10-4

DENVER, Co- Matt Kemp lead the offense with a homer and 2 doubles as the San Diego Padres were able to power pass the Colorado Rockies 10-4 on Sunday afternoon.
For the Padres James Shields got the start. He pitched 6.2 innings allowing 2 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 8 and walked 4. His performance rewarded him with his 13th win of the year.
On the other side Kyle Kendrick got the start. He only lasted 4 innings allowing 6 hits and 6 runs. He struck out 3 and walked 1 as he picked up his 13th loss of the year.
The offense got started early for the Padres. Yangervis Solarte hit his 13th homer of the year. It was a 2-run shot that brought in Wil Myers and gave San Diego a early 2-0 lead.
Charlie Blackmon answered back with a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the 1st. It was his 16th of the year and cut the deficit to 2-1.
Travis Jankowski hit a RBI single in the 2nd inning that brought in Cory Spangenberg that pushed the lead up to 3-1. Kemp hit a solo shot in the 3rd inning. It was his 23rd of the season and Jedd Gyorko followed with one of his own in the inning. For Gyorko it was 16th of the year.
Spangenberg hit one out of the yard in the 4th inning. His solo shot was his 3rd of the year and pushed the Padres lead to 6-1.
All-Star Justin Upton hit a RBI double to centerfield in the 5th inning. Derek Norris hit a RBI single in the inning as well and after 5 the Padres held a 8-1 advantage.
Upton hit a 2-run single in the 6th inning that pushed the lead to 10-1.
The Rockies did try to make a comeback in the 7th inning. Dustin Garneau walked with the bases loaded and brought in Justin Morneau. Ben Paulsen followed with a RBI single to right that brought in Daniel Descalso and the Padres beat the Rockies 10-4.
The Padres will have Monday off before taking on the San Francisco Giants at home on Tuesday. Chris Heston and Tyson Ross are the projected starters.
