Mat Latos and Michael Morse Headed to the Dodgers

The Dodgers this morning are sending 3 currently unnamed minor league players to the Marlins in exchange for Mat Latos, Michael Morse and a competitive balance pick in the 2016 Rule IV draft.

With Mat Latos, the Dodgers are acquiring a good backend rotation arm to solidify their run for the playoffs and more.

Latos has a 4.48 ERA but a 3.34 FIP, and his other pitching peripherals are in line with his career numbers so I expect that with the Dodgers good defense and the framing and pitch calling of AJ Ellis and Yasmani Grandal that he will make a resurgence with the Dodgers and be a valuable piece.

Mat Latos will also be a free agent after this season but at 27, is a pitcher that I can see resigning with the Dodgers long-term if they choose not to keep Brett Anderson or just want another arm.

Michael Morse is more than likely being included as a money dump by the Marlins and a player that the Dodgers can just afford to DFA and eat the money in exchange for giving up lower tiered prospects.

All in all a good deal for the Dodgers and one of those slick “I didn’t see that coming” trades that they have shown to be good at, or bad at depending on your view on the Juan Uribe trade.
