Marcus Mariota’s Camp Believes Chargers On the Hunt

According to ESPN3, those in Marcus Mariota’s camp believe that the San Diego Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles are going to be competing to draft him.

NFL insider, Sal Paolantonio reports that sources believe a bidding war with the Tennessee Titans and the two other teams could ensue. Those weren’t the only teams though! Paolantonio also name dropped the Jets, St. Louis Rams, and Cleveland Browns, but Mariota’s camp have their hearts set on either the Chargers, or the Eagles.

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King recently discussed the Chargers’ likelihood of dealing Philip Rivers:

“Just a gut feeling after lots of time calling around over the weekend. Now, I do think the Titans and Chargers will talk this week, but I don’t see a smart match; moreover, as I’ve written all along, San Diego definitely does not want to trade Rivers, and I believe the Chargers have never been told Rivers won’t sign a contract in San Diego beyond this year—though he does not want to currently. I believe Tennessee would want more than the 33-year-old quarterback for the second pick in the draft, and if I’m San Diego GM Tom Telesco, I’m not willing to offer any more.”

So where does that leave the Chargers? If they aren’t the favorite, many assume Mariota is going to land with the Eagles. I guess they have to start making some moves and discuss some contracts!

We will report more on this as the details are released.
