Make It Five For The Angels, As They Beat Texas, 8-6

@latimes

The Angels now are enjoying their longest winning streak of the season, after a comeback victory over the Texas Rangers, 8-6.

Albert Pujols connected for a pair of three-run homers to lead the team to win. The Angels slugger drove in six of the team’s eight runs, providing the much-needed power surge from the middle of the batting order. Puljos is in the midst of a very nice power outburst. Just a few days ago, Pujols hit a pair of two-run bombs in leading the team in the sweep of the Chicago White Sox.

The team fell behind early, Angels Starter Tim Lincecum (W,2-3), struggled early but was able to rebound to get through five innings. Rangers Catcher Robinson Chirinos hit a pair of homers off Lincecum in the second and fourth innings, giving the Rangers a manageable lead at 3-0.

The Angels made a statement in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, scoring eight times and putting the finishing touches on the win. The bullpen did a nice job in holding the lead, Deolis Guerra (H,1), gave up a late homer to Ian Desmond but it wasn’t a factor.

HALO’S DUGOUT:

We have to give Jett Bandy a mention. Bandy drove in the other two runs last night in the win, on a solo-shot off of Rangers reliever Shawn Tolleson and on a sacrifice fly that scored Andrelton Simmons. The six runs driven in by Pujols was the first time he accomplished this feat since 2009.

ANGELS ON DECK:

The teams will conclude their series tonight in Anaheim, as the Angels go for the sweep and to remain unbeaten after the All-Star break. Hector Santiago (7-4, 4.27 ERA), will take the mound for the Halos. Martin Perez (7-6, 4.05 ERA), will be on the hill for Texas. The Angels will continue to make their way back to the top of the division, as they are currently in fourth place, 12.5 games behind the Rangers in the American League West.
