Magic Johnson, The Lakers And The Dodgers
- Updated: February 13, 2015
Hello Magic Johnson, my name is Tim Morris and I grew up a huge fan of yours. I was there (watching on TV), when you announced you had HIV, I was mad, I was sad, I cried. I watched as you fought back from it and made a comeback with the Lakers years later and was heartfelt when you gave it all you had and finally hung it up for good. After that, I started to hear that you were making moves in the business world, Magic Johnson’s Fridays, I attended the first week of Magic Johnson Theaters at the Baldwin Hills Mall and I even worked at one of your 24 Hour Fitnesses, started there day 1 at the location in Altadena!
Last but definitely not least, I started to hear rumblings that you were putting together a team to buy the Dodgers once Frank McCourt had been forced to sell. Now, having been a blogger at the time of the Frank McCourt regime, so needless to say I was very excited to hear that one of my idols, a man I knew was a successful business man, someone I knew worked hard and put smart people around him might just buy my Dodgers. I didn’t think that you would but I was excited, but lo and behold you partner with Guggenheim and bought my Dodgers for a record $2.15 billion cash! Not Credit like our old “friend” McCourt but cash money, done. It was one of the happiest days of my life, one of my idols, of which I have very few, was part of my #1 team in all of sports, the Los Angeles Dodgers, awesome!
You and your group have done amazing things with the team and I am very pleased but one thing is starting to bother me and I just realized I felt this way because of your interview on First Take on ESPN. The way in which you have criticized my #2 team, the Los Angeles Lakers…..Now now, I understand, they suck, they’ve made some mistakes, got screwed over by the league for “basketball reasons” and are now probably the worst team in Lakers history, I get that but do you have to get on TV, on the radio every time someone asks you a question and give your opinion? You’re starting to look like a sour old man, and I like you, I really like you but it’s getting to the point that whenever I hear you have an interview I cringe before I even hear it because I know you are going to say something about the Lakers (let’s not even get into your Twitter posts, those can be special too but I digress) and frankly, at least for me, it falls on deaf ears.
You know what I don’t hear you talk about? My Dodgers, you know, that team you own a piece of? I’d love for you to come out and praise how great Stan Kasten has been, how Andrew Friedman was the steal of the century, how Farhan Zaidi isn’t only smart but he’s witty and gives us great material like this:

How can you not love this guy? Let’s talk about that guy! Not Jim Buss, or Jeanie Buss. Look, I know you have this long relationship but you sound like a bitter ex-boyfriend that can’t get over his ex-girlfriend and has to constantly talk about her because he has some unresolved feelings. Let it go (let it goooooo) you are now connected to two of the most iconic franchises in the history of sports, you can be so much more than the guy that bashes the Lakers, everyone’s already doing that! I beg of you, please, for your sake and mine, leave the Lakers alone, I want to hear you talk more about my beloved Dodgers, the team I was so happy for you to be apart of, even if the Lakers continue to suck.
