Los Angeles Lakers Waive Roscoe Smith and Jabari Brown
- Updated: October 26, 2014
According to NBA.com, the Los Angeles Lakers have waived guard Jabari Brown and forward Roscoe Smith from the roster. The announcement came today from General Manager Mitch Kupchak.
Jabari Brown is a rookie from Missouri. He made an appearance in a Lakers uniform in four preseason games. He put five points, two rebounds and an assist in 22 minutes to his name.
Roscoe Smith, is also a rookie, from UNLV. Smith had game action in seven of the Lakers’ eight preseason contests. He averaged 3.1 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 45.0% (9-20) from the field.
Both players were originally signed to the Lakers training camp roster on September 23.
After the news broke of Steve Nash being ruled out for the season, Lakers fans and critics analyzed every possibility the team could put in place moving forward. Jabari Brown being cut seemed like a given due to the rookies’ short playing time during the preseason. Roscoe Smith, however, looked like he had a really good chance of making the roster.
We have to remember that Lakers only have one small (healthy) forward on the squad in Wesley Johnson. So it isn’t out of the realm of possibility for Smith to get a call in the near future to bring depth at the position.
The recent injuries of Wayne Ellington and Ronnie Price make things that much harder for the Lakers with the start of the regular season only days away.
The Los Angeles Lakers roster now stands at 15.
