The Los Angeles Kings will travel to New York tonight to take on the New York Islanders. The Kings (and Jonathan Quick) have no doubt they will get a chance to get back to the playoffs. As it stands now, the Kings are trailing the Calgary Flames by one point for third place in the Pacific Division and are two behind Winnipeg in the West’s second wild-card spot. ESPN.com reports the following after media interviews:
“I think I’ve said it plenty of times, we definitely don’t want to be in this kind of position,” center Anze Kopitar told the team’s official website. “But it does seem like we play good hockey when our backs are against the wall.”
“It was a good performance by everyone,” said right wing Marian Gaborik, who has four points in three games. “We need points. That’s the bottom line.”
The Islanders are definitely in the playoffs but they are in a slump of sorts. They are currently 1-4-1, and have only found the net once in each. ESPN.com reports the following
“We just have to find a way to get goals,” defenseman Johnny Boychuk said. “We did some good things. We just have to bear down with our opportunities.”
