Los Angeles Kings Lose To Philadelphia Flyers 2-1

The Los Angeles Kings lost tonight to the Philadelphia Flyers. The game ended 2-1 in the Flyers favor.

Tonight’s victory for Philadelphia was only the 2 in 12 games as they made a conscious effort to avoid tying their worst franchise record.

For the LA Kings, the story was a different one. They were coming off their third  shutout win, in four games and second in a row and expected to get another tonight. The Kings fell behind early and struggled to recover. The opportunity to tie the game came midway through the third period when Mason abandoned a rebound following a stop to Anze Kopitar‘s 40-foot wrist shot with his glove. But Richards ended up backhanding the puck over the crossbar.

ESPN.com said this about the game:

Justin Williams scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions and Jonathan Quick faced only 16 shots. The Kings were scoreless on the power play against a penalty-killing unit that came in with the league-worst 74.4 success rate.

Simmonds, who spent his first three NHL seasons with the Kings before he was traded to Philadelphia with Brayden Schenn for Mike Richards in June 2011, made it 2-0 at 2:08 of the second period with his 11th goal.”

The Los Angeles Kings will take on the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday December 9th.
