Home Sweet Home

If there is any positives to consider at this point it is the Kings have now returned home to the safe confines of the Staples Center and will be playing 11 of their next 14 games at home. The first, a re-match with the St. Louis Blues tonight, as they have a healthy home record of 11-4-1.  Forward Marian Gaborik has scored three goals in the last two games and seems to be heating up and a healthy and goal scoring Gaborik could mean a return to form from the struggling Anze Kopitar.  That still leaves the scoring slumps of Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson to be dealt with and the troubles of the once formidable Kings defense and goaltending to be fixed, tightened and sorted out but at least it’s a start.

Having an unfortunate lack of puck luck in games where the Kings were clearly dominating but could not either keep the puck out of their own net or score some badly needed timely goals (even when out shooting the opposition by large amounts) the Kings may now be  finally showing some promise and signs of breaking out of the rut in what has probably been the first time since the end of October. I know I’m crazy right?

The final scores of the last few games don’t help me with my theory and it doesn’t help that the Kings are still not playing a complete 60 minute focused game of hockey but their puck possession prowess has started to rise, their attention span is starting to last longer (as in two full periods instead of just one)  and that means in time the goals will come and the bad luck will end.  No team this talented and with this much Championship experience can be this unlucky for too long.  The numbers just simply don’t support this.

With the Staples Center rocking with enthusiastic  Kings fans, the sweet organ melodies being played by the talented Dieter Ruehle and the comfort of sleeping in their own beds, this return home could just be the right medicine (or reset button) that the doctor has ordered. Home sweet home indeed.
