Los Angeles Dodgers Trade For Chris Heisey

Bolstering what was already a loaded outfield, the Los Angeles Dodgers struck a deal with the Cincinnati Reds for outfielder Chris Heisey in exchange for right-handed pitcher Matt Magill. The trade was first reported by ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick.

Heisey hit .222/.265/.378 with the Reds in 2014 while hitting 50 homeruns over his four-year career. While Heisey failed to take the starting job in Cincinnati, he provides a much needed power behind the bench and is versatile on defense.

Outfield depth was certainly not an issue for the Dodgers heading into the offseason so the move comes off as a bit surprising to some. All signs point to this leading up to a bigger trade considering all the rumors involving Dodger outfielders.

As of now the Dodgers have been involved with trade talks concerning Matt Kemp with the Orioles, Padres and Mariners. While these negotiations have gone nowhere, it has been reported by FOX’s Ken Rosenthal that the Dodgers are aggressively trying to move Kemp, Carl Crawford or Andre Ethier.

Considering the money that is owed to those players, the only one that seems likely of moving is Kemp. The Orioles have shown great interest should they not be able to resign their outfielders.

The other major concern for the Dodgers this offseason was the bullpen but it seems like the front office has been in a serious pursuit of left-handed reliever Andrew Miller along with the New York Yankees, according to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney. Miller posted a 2.02 ERA last season with 103 strikeouts and a 0.80 WHIP.

Either way Andrew Friedman and the new Dodgers front office still have plenty of work to be done and it will be interesting to see what the lineup will look like on Opening Day.
