Los Angeles Dodgers Are Top Dogs In Money Spending

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been most talked about when it comes to spending money especially since new ownership came to the team in 2012.

According to The Associated Press, the final calculations for the Dodgers payroll came out to a record $257,283,410. With this total, that puts the Dodgers at over $20 million above the Yankees last season, which was the highest.

While the Dodgers seem to be cruising and living the life with all this money to give players, they owe a handful in tax, $26,621,125 to be exact. For those who don’t know, the tax is calculated based upon the average yearly value of contracts within a 40-man roster.

The Yankees have had the crown since luxury tax began in 2003, however, the Yankees for the first time are handing over the crown to the Dodgers.

With the Dodgers being in one of the biggest World Series droughts in the league, since 1988, you know they’re determined and are willing to pay what they have to in order to achieve their goal.

However, spending money doesn’t always guarantee winning as three out of the five biggest spenders in the MLB missed the playoffs last season: Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox.

Will the money help the Dodgers get to the World Series this year? I guess we’ll have to find out!
