Los Angeles Dodgers 7 – San Francisco Giants 3

@GinaFerazzi

Last night at Chavez Ravine it was a significant day for the Los Angeles Dodgers (7-4) ball club. Being that it the 69th annual Jackie Robinson Day for the MLB it was more important for the team who broke the color barrier April 15, 1947.

Yesterday it was a classic pitchers duel as Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 1.64 ERA) W [7.0 IP, 5 Hits, 6 K’s, 2 ER] faced Madison Bumgarner (1-1, 4.50 ERA) L [5.0 IP, 8 Hits, 7 K’s, 4 ER, 2 HR]

In the bottom of the first inning on the first pitch Dodgers utility man Kike Hernandez hit a solo home run to center field. As Los Angeles took an early 1-0 lead.

During the top of the third inning the Giants tied the game with a wild pitch by Kershaw. Allowing Bumgarner to score tying the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the third inning Hernandez hit his second home run to left center field as the Dodgers regained the lead 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning Dodgers shortstop Charlie Culberson hit a 2-run RBI single as Justin Turner and Howie Kendrick scored. It was 4-1 as Kike Hernandez hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 6-1 after a questionable fair ball call.

Nonetheless the Giants responded and managed to score two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh inning, Culberson hit another RBI single as catcher A.J. Ellis scored for a final score of 7-3 Los Angeles.

Tonight at 6:10 PM PT both these rivals will be at it again. Giants ace Johnny Cueto (2-0, 4.50 ERA) will face Dodgers pitcher Scott Kazmir (1-0, 5.40 ERA) as he looks to rebound in his home debut.
