Los Angeles Clippers vs Milwaukee Bucks Recap 12/16

After going 4-1 on the team’s road trip the Los Angeles Clippers returned home for a quick visit Wednesday night before the team heads back on the road to take on San Antonio and Houston on Friday and Saturday. But back to the team’s return home to take on the Milwaukee Bucks. The Clippers, having won the earlier matchup between the two and were hoping for a similar result against a Bucks team that would be without big man Greg Monroe due to an MCL injury. The Bucks are playing their second game in as many nights after dropping one to the other Staples Center tenants the Lakers Tuesday night.

The First quarter started a little oddly as the Clippers players were visibly cold on the floor, Blake Griffin was seen blowing into his hands and trying to warm himself up at the free throw line and almost like clockwork as the cold set in the lights in the arena went down the Los Angeles Kings logos began to flash on the court. While the temperature and the lighting in the arena was something that would have our Kings writer Jeff Duarte smiling Wednesday night there was plenty of basketball left to be played.

Giannis Antetokounmpo did not start for the Bucks, and that lack of length would hurt Milwaukee moving forward in this game. J.J. Redick came out knocking in shots and would end the first quarter leading the club in scoring with 8 points. Meanwhile Paul Pierce would find his stroke and manage to knock in a buzzer beating two to give the Clippers a 29-21 lead heading into the second.

The Clippers defense would remain strong in the second quarter as DeAndre Jordan and Luc Mbah a Moute would have plenty to do with the big stops by the team. Offense would also come into play for Los Angeles as the team’s hot shooting would continue with Blake Griffin and Chris Paul getting this going. Griffin would end the quarter knocking in an and 1 giving the team a 54-43 lead going into halftime.

Chris Paul would come out in the second half looking determined to give the Clippers the win. He was spreading the ball all over the floor and knocking in the mid to long range shot better than he has all season arguably. However this quarter would be marred by the ejection of DeAndre Jordan as he argued with an official after a play that he thought should have been called a jump ball and picking up two consecutive technical fouls. Josh Smith would end the quarter scorching hot knocking in two three pointers in the last minute of play to give the team a 78-66 lead with the fourth quarter looming.

Sans Jordan the Clippers would not lose much on the defensive end. Despite a few plays that Jordan could have stopped by grabbing in a defensive rebound the Clippers were able to hold together pretty well. The three point shot really started to fall for the team as the club ended up going 11-21 from long range in the game, the majority of which came in the fourth and final quarter. Los Angeles would be able to fend off the Bucks and get a convincing 103-90 win at home.

Blake Griffin would impress as he put in 15 points with 8 rebounds and 5 assists, meanwhile Chris Paul had an amazing 21 points to go with 8 assists as he was 3 for 4 from three point range. J.J. Redick remained on his hot streak as he dropped in 19 points, 6 of which came from the foul line where he shot an expected 100 percent.

A great win for the Clippers Wednesday night at home after returning from a difficult road trip and planning for another one in short order. Hopefully the team remains hot heading into this Texas road trip because San Antonio and Houston always play this team tough. Go Clips Go!!
