Los Angeles Clippers vs Golden State Warriors Recap 11/19

The 12-0 Golden State Warriors headed into Staples Center hoping to become only the fourth team in NBA history to start off a season 13-0. Without J.J. Redick, and Chris Paul returning from missing a few games with an injury the Clippers were put in the very difficult spot of stopping the NBA’s hottest team. Chris Paul however would show no signs of injury and lead the Clippers with 35 points and 8 assists. Despite a great game from Paul and Blake Griffin, the Warriors were able to find a way to win this one in what was the largest comeback of this NBA season as the Clippers once lead by 23 and would end up losing 124-117.

The Clippers got off to as hot as a start as you could hope for Thursday night as they lead the NBA champion Warriors 41-25 after the first quarter. Chris Paul was clicking on all cylinders as he lead all scorers by dropping in 18 points and 4 assists in the first on 7 of 7 shooting. The Clippers shot a staggering 71% from the field in the first and looked to be in great shape moving forward.

The Warriors won the second quarter 29-27 as the Clippers argued with officials and put themselves in foul trouble. Los Angeles looked a little out of sorts in the quarter but were able to use their great offense to hold off the Warriors attack.

Los Angeles lead 68-54 at the half as Blake Griffin had 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Chris Paul ended the half with 23 points as his attacking mentality seemed to fade and he went into distribution mode. Austin Rivers was the bench presence the Clippers needed through the first half and his contribution on the defensive end against Stephen Curry was where the Clippers felt his presence most.

It’s safe to say, the third quarter belonged to Golden State. Los Angeles simply did not look good. Steph Curry, who was in foul trouble early started to find his way to the rim and Harrison Barnes of all people started to hurt the Clippers. His presence would continue to be felt through the fourth quarter. The Warriors won the quarter 31-23 and heading into the fourth quarter the Clippers comfortable lead became about as comfortable as DeAndre Jordan at the free throw line as Los Angeles only held a 91-85 lead after a Draymond Green buzzer beating three to end it.

Harrison Barnes started off the fourth quarter knocking down shots as the Clippers lead got cut down to 96-95 early on. Chaos ensued as the Clippers and Warriors got into a three point shootout. In what was probably not the greatest idea for Los Angeles, Steph Curry and Andre Iguodala started to connect and Los Angeles lead was cut to 112-110 with just over three minutes to go. This came after the Clippers seemed to get more comfortable and run the floor more confidently leading by as much as nine. Steph Curry and the Warriors were able to keep the run going as Curry ended with 40 points to help the Warriors finish off the game.

The Los Angeles Clippers lost a game they should have won Thursday night. After the hot start to the game, Golden State was able to maintain their cool and finish off Los Angeles doing what they do best, knocking down the three and getting hot at the right time. The Warriors now lead the season series 2-0 as they move on to 13-0 and the Clippers move to 6-5.
