Los Angeles Clippers Player: Wesley Johnson 2015-16 Predictions

Wesley Johnson is entering his sixth NBA season, this will be his first season with the Clippers, as he will change locker rooms from his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers. Johnson has also made a brief stop with the Phoenix Suns.

He was a former first-round pick, (fourth overall, by the Minnesota Timberwolves), in the 2010 NBA Draft, out of the University Of Syracuse. This was a good draft class that featured players such as John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe, Paul George and Gordon Hayward.

Johnson hasn’t had the opportunity to play on a team that has as much talent as this current Los Angeles Clippers team has. Head Coach Doc Rivers has a very difficult task of where to place the versatile Johnson. In the off-season, the Clippers signed Paul Pierce; a veteran Small Forward that is still debating on retirement at the end of this season. Johnson and Pierce will be the final piece of the starting five, with the other player to help anchor one of the best benches in the NBA.

Looking at his numbers from last season:

PPG: 9.9

RPG: 4.2

APG: 1.6

BPG: 0.6

SPG: 0.8

FG%: .451

3PT%: .351

FT%: .804

Johnson played 76 games last season for the Lakers, starting 59 of them, while averaging 29.5 minutes per game.

Two different scenario’s could play out for Johnson this season. The first, if he wins the starting spot at Small Forward, it’s a great move. With the addition to the starting line up, Johnson’s career numbers should increase and he will be a key piece to an already great defensive team. With Chris Paul, who is amongst the leaders in steals in the league and both Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, two for the best rebounding and shot blocking big men in the league, his defensive skills will flourish and improve, in either situation he maintains on this team.

The second scenario is that if Johnson is used as a role player from off the bench. As mentioned before, Wes hasn’t played for a winning club but he can and will be a great bench player, on this team. Second team players usually don’t have much to work with but with the depth and players on this second team, like Josh Smith, Jamal Crawford and Lance Stephenson, Johnson and this team will be very dominate and hard to stop. There just isn’t to many teams in this league that can feature this much from a second group and the Clippers are very fortunate to have this as aspect of their team as a strength.

The Los Angeles Clippers are going to be an exciting team to watch this season, Wesley Johnson will be a vital piece to this team, if the Clippers plan to play for a title this season, Johnson will strive to improve, when he gets his chance to play on this very talented group of players.

Predictions for this season, 2015-16:

PPG: 10.2

RPG: 4.8

APG: 2.3

BPG: 1.1

SPG: 1.3

FG%: .475

3PT%: .400

FT%: .840
