Los Angeles Clippers Player Profile: Matt Barnes

2013-2014 season statistics: 9.9 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game, .438% field goal percentage, .343% three-point percentage

Clippers’ small forward, Matt Barnes, is definitely on the latter end of his long career. Being 34 years old, Barnes has slowed down considerably and has started to rely on his three-point game to get his points. While he has been changing his style of play, Barnes has been improving as a long-range shooter making him a valued player on the Clippers’ roster.

Most would think, due to Barnes’ age, Barnes would be decreasing in minutes played in each game. But this is actually not the case. In fact, Barnes played the most minutes in his entire career last season averaging 27.5 per game.

This season will be Barnes’ third year with the Clippers and he will be the projected starter at small forward once again for the Clips.

Out of the five starters for the Clippers, Barnes would be viewed as the odd man out of the group. All of the other starters like Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan all are capable of having all-star caliber games.

Matt Barnes on the otherhand…not so much. But that’s fine. Barnes is a role player, an effective role player nevertheless, but a role player who just so happens to be the starter for the Clippers.

While Barnes is the odd man out in the group, he will still play a large role for the Clippers this season who will definitely have his opportunities to make an impact in multiple games. The question becomes, will he though? We shall see…
