Los Angeles Angels Player Profile: Jahmai Jones

@jamjones7

As the start of the major league season approaches, we have some time to take a look at a few players in the farm system of the Los Angeles Angels. This is the first of two players that will be featured, the first is the young outfielder Jahmai Jones.

Jahmai Jones is only 18 years old but he is considered one of the best prospects in the Angels farm system. Born in Roswell Georgia,(a suburb north of Atlanta), he has the luxury of sharing the same state with a bunch of great baseball talent who has come from this great area.

Jones attended the Wesleyan School in Norcross, Georgia, where he was drafted in the second round of the 2015 MLB June Draft, by the Angels after a great career at his high school. Jones career at Wesleyan was outstanding, he holds the school records in doubles (38), stolen bases (78), and he also holds the school record with the highest batting average (.458). Jones also displayed some power with the long ball. His 26 homers ranked him forth on the all time list for the school.

After getting the call from the Angels, Jones started his major league career last season in the Arizona League. In his first season he played forty games with the team, showing off his impressive speed by leading them in stolen bases with sixteen. His play was very impressive, as he also was tied for the team lead in homers with (2), and second one the team with (20) RBI’s.

We all know that the Angels have an outstanding Center-fielder right now by the name of Mike Trout, but Jones has played most of his games in center. If he has any ambitions of playing in the majors, he could also consider playing in Left and Right, Jones has started at all three positions for the Angels so far.

Jahmai Jones has only appeared in one Spring Training game so far this season, my guess is that he will start the season again with the Arizona Angels, but with some work, he should be promoted to Burlington Bees, the Class”A” affiliate of the Angels in the Midwest League. The Bees Manager, Chad Tracy will have to make room for the speedster, to help him win some games.
