Kubitza is 24-year-old third base prospect for the future. He was selected in the third round of the 2011 MLB draft. He was ranked the #22 best prospect in the Braves system after the 2013 season.
Last season he hit .295 collecting 31 doubles and 21 stolen bases. This season the Angels will start David Freese at third base but many people believe the job is Kubitza’s to lose in the years to come.
The Angels also acquired Nate Hyatt. Hyatt was a thirteenth round selection out of Appalachian State University. Last season Hyatt posted a 5-3 record with a 2.71 ERA.
In order to get these two prospects the Angels had to give up Ricardo Sanchez. Sanchez is just 17 years old and has a fastball in the mid 90’s. He was ranked the third best prospect in the Angels system according to Baseball America.
Sanchez pitched in rookie ball and posted a 3.49 ERA. With the amount of young arms in the Angels system it made giving up Sanchez a little easier.
The Angels hope they have found their third basemen of the future with this acquisition.
