Lob City MVP – Los Angeles Clippers Week 6
- Updated: December 12, 2014
Another week, another week of zero losses for the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clips went 3-0 in the past week and have been clicking on all cylinders. The Clippers’ big 3 of Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan, have been absolutely tearing it up with each having impressive games in all 3 games this past week. The Clips have now won 9 straight games and show no signs of ending that streak any time soon.
Game #1: New Orleans Pelicans 100, Los Angeles Clippers 120
The Clippers were dominant against the Pelicans winning every statistical category except for total rebounds (45-38) which is shocking because the Clippers still ended up winning by 20 points. The Clips would shoot an impressive 55% from the field and 53% from the 3-point line while attempting 32 three’s for the night.
The Clips’ leading scorer was Blake Griffin who would post 30 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Clips’ big man, DeAndre Jordan would get the majority of the boards for the Clippers (47% of team’s total rebounds) by having 18 for the night to go along with 5 blocks but just 8 points.
Chris Paul would be up to his normal ways by having his traditional double double stat of at least 10 points and 10 assists (18 points and 16 assists for the night).
Jamal Crawford, off the bench, would be the only bench player to really do anything having 20 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Game #2: Phoenix Suns 120, Los Angeles Clippers 121
This would be an exciting thriller for the Clippers as this matchup with the Phoenix Suns would head to overtime with the Clippers getting the eventual win. How did the Clippers exactly pull it off, though? Just a Blake Griffin buzzer beater 3 to win the game of course. Do have to say, Griffin’s three bounced off the rim and then the backboard before finally going into the basket…The Clippers’ announcer said during the game, “Its better to be lucky than good.”
Griffin, from the three-point line this season, has been 6-10 and, in his first four seasons, was 26-112 (23%). This would also be the first career buzzer beater winner by Blake Griffin and the first for the Clippers since December 27th, 2009 (ESPN Stats & Information).
For the night, Griffin would have 45 points, 8 rebounds, and would be 15-17 from the free throw line. Jordan would have another double double night with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and also 4 blocks. Paul would also have another double double night having 20 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds.
Crawford, for the night, would only have 9 points and 3 assists. His poor night could be reflected to win he was ejected from the game in the 4th quarter. This would be Crawford’s first ejection in an NBA game after having played over 1,000 games in his long career.
Game #3: Los Angeles Clippers 103, Indiana Pacers 96
The final game of the week would feature the entire five starters for the Clippers getting into double digits in scoring. None of the starting five would be the leading scorer for the Clippers, however, as Crawford would be the team’s leading scorer having 18 points for the night after having just 9 points in the previous game. Griffin and Paul would tie for second with 17 points a piece.
In terms of players getting double doubles, three Clippers would get this against the Pacers. Griffin (17 pts, 10 rebs), Jordan (12 pts, 19 rebs), and Paul (17 pts, 15 assts).
The Clippers’ defense would also play well holding the Pacers to just 39% for the night.
Unlike the previous game for the Clippers, this game would be pretty quiet but would still be another win for Lob City.
Lob City MVP:
This week was extremely tough to choose a Lob City MVP because there really were 3 players for the Clips that easily could have the honors. Griffin, Paul, and Jordan all had great weeks and are well-deserving of being Lob City MVP of the week.
We will choose just one, though, and our Lob City MVP of the week has to go to the guy that got a buzzer-beater 3 to win a game and have 45 points in the same game…Blake Griffin.
Griffin lead the team in scoring in 2 of the 3 contests this past week averaging 30 points per game. Griffin also did descent in the rebound department averaging 8.3 rebounds per game.
Still have to give two honorable mentions to Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan who each had outstanding weeks of their own. Paul averaged 13.6 assists per game to go along with 18 points per game. Paul did not have a single game where he did not at least average 10 points and 10 assists.
Jordan averaged an outstanding 17 rebounds per game to go along with 4 blocks per game. Jordan was just, simply, a beast down in the paint.
