Lakers Working To Negotiate Buyout or Trade For Luol Deng
- Updated: November 7, 2017
According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com, the Los Angeles Lakers are working to negotiate a buyout or trade for Luol Deng.
Luol Deng knows no one feels sorry for a guy making $18 million a year who doesn’t play. Still doesn’t make it easy. https://t.co/TVyMnJuwua

Los Angeles has chosen the youth movement over Deng since signing him to a four-year contract with $72 million dollars in 2016. Brandon Ingram, Larry Nance Jr., Julius Randle, and now Kyle Kuzma have seen significantly more minutes than Deng.
Deng spoke to Shelburne about the situation. Below is an excerpt from her article. You can read the full article here.
“It definitely hurts,” Deng told ESPN on Monday after the Lakers practiced. “But the only answer for me now is to prove myself away from L.A. I’m not asked to play, I’m not in the rotation, so I can’t prove myself here.
“Most of these young guys don’t understand the business of basketball, so if I come in here and I’m angry every day, I’m taking something away from them. I have to be smiling, I have to be in the best mood I can be in, because they’re living their dream of being an NBA player.”
Los Angeles is in a peculiar situation with Deng. His contract makes him hard to move unless they club attaches an asset of some sort, a draft pick or young prospect. It will be interesting to see how this situation progresses over the next few weeks.
