Lakers Have Won Two Straight and Three of Four
- Updated: January 10, 2017
Following a disastrous stretch in December and early January in which we saw the Lakers lose sixteen of nineteen games, the kids have shown signs of life with two straight wins and three of four over the past week or so.
Sunday night saw the Lakers top Orlando with ease. A balanced attack from the staging five (19 for Julius Randle, 17 for D’Angelo Russell and 15 for Timofey Mozgov) coupled with a monster game off the bench for rookie Brandon Ingram (17 pts on 6-9 shooting in 27 minutes) led LA to a 111-95 W in a game that was never really in question.
Serge Ibaka, Evan Fournier and Nikola Vucevic each dropped 19 for Orlando.
The Lakers held the Magic to just nine third quarter points, a season best from a defensive standpoint.
A crowd of 18,997 turned up for the game, an encouraging sign. Through tough times, it’s important a fanbase adapts to the process and supports the youth movement.
If you’re still thinking playoffs, one wouldn’t go as far as calling you delusional, but I don’t know that that’s a reasonable expectation at this point. At 15-26, the Lakers sit at 12th in the Western Conference, two games out of the final playoff spot currently held by Portland. The Lakers are 18.5 games back of the first place Warriors, just to put that in perspective.
Next three games: home vs Portland (1/10), at San Antonio (1/12), at LAC (1/14).
