Sources: The Los Angeles Lakers are releasing center Andrew Bogut. With Lakers at 11-27, this allows sides to part ways and Bogut to pivot toward signing with a playoff team.

David Aldridge of TNT also reported the news.
Lakers to release Andrew Bogut today so that Bogut can have a shot at signing with a playoff team (@ShamsCharania first) before his guarantee for the rest of the season kicked in.

Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum also reported the news.
Lakers wouldn’t have waived Andrew Bogut today if they were closer to that eighth playoff spot in the West.
With new open roster slot, they’re more likely to eventually sign a player to a 10-day contract than elevating one of their two-way players (Caruso, Blue) to full-time.

Bogut is a former number one pick in the NBA draft. He has spent time with the Bucks, Warriors, Mavericks, and Cavs before joining the Lakers this offseason.
He has played sparely and would like to join a playoff team at this point in his career. The roster spot open allows the club to sign a younger prospect.
