Lakers a No-Show In Loss to Celtics

Lakers

Remember those days of showtime? The only reminder needed was to look up at the purple and gold jerseys hanging above the rafters. Same to say those days are long gone at least from the Lakers point of view. The Celtics instead brought a show of their own.

Another lackluster defensive performance for the Lakers paved the way for the Celtics to run rampant at Staples Center Friday night. Jaylen Brown’s acrobatic alley-oop from Avery Bradley capped off easy 115-95 victory over the Lakers who are on a downward spiral to the lottery.

Brown finished with 16 points while fellow rookie Brandon Ingram scored no points and attempted only two shots. The Celtics finished with six players scoring in double figures with MVP-candidate Isaiah Thomas once again leading the way with a team-high 20 points on 6 of 13 shooting.

It was another embarrassing night for the Lakers who just a month ago were defeated by the Celtics who overtook the franchise in most wins by an NBA team. This time with Magic Johnson now in control of Basketball Operations, the young squad showed more of the same effort that has tested the patience of head coach Luke Walton. Walton noticed the jawing and laughter coming from Boston’s bench, but hopes it will spur motivation in his team.

“A little bit of anger and a little bit of frustration because this team is showboating on our home court because of, in my opinion, you give up those type of transition buckets if we’re not giving effort to get back, which is the reason why I pulled the starters in the third quarter,” Walton said.

“Obviously, it’s not enjoyable to watch teams showboating on your home court, but if I’m them, why not? If we’re not running back on defense, rub it in our face. Hopefully, it pisses the players off, and the next time it happens, we’ll use energy to get down there to contest it.”
