Lakers make it two in a row, after beating the Pelicans,99-96
- Updated: February 5, 2016
The Los Angeles Lakers got back into the win column, as they made it two in a row as they edged out the Pelicans, 99-96.
This game was close throughout, but the Lakers manage to pull away late, down in New Orleans. It was another stellar performance from Kobe Bryant, who scored 12 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter. Bryant was also able to record a double-double, with 12 rebounds, to lead the team in both categories.
Despite the fact that Head Coach Byron Scott only used four players off the bench last night, the Lakers got the most out of Black, Young, Bass and Russell. Russell was the most productive player coming off the bench and used his 29 minutes, to score 13 points.
An interesting stat was revealed in last night’s game, as the Pelicans were setting up for the final play of the game, in which they needed a three-point shot to tie the game at 99. Los Angeles are ranked in the top ten in the NBA, when it comes to defending the three-point shot, it’s a good stat, despite the problems that the team has endured this season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS FOR THE LAKERS:
Wins in the NBA are contributed to team’s shooting well from the floor, this win for the Lakers produced great numbers for the team. Los Angeles shot 48% from the floor, as opposed to the Pelicans 46%. Los Angeles managed to hit 7 of 20 from the three-point range for 35% and even with a very sharp-shooters on the opposing side, the Pelicans only shot 20%.
Making free-throws mattered, both teams went to the line 14 times, but the Lakers shot better, with 70%.
NEXT UP FOR THE LAKERS:
The team will travel to San Antonio, to face the Spurs, from the AT&T Center, on Saturday night, at 8:30 pm on the NBA TV Channel. The last matchup with the Spurs did not go as planned, as the Spurs came away with a 108-95 victory. Both teams are coming into this one on two-game winning streaks, let’s hope that our Lakers,(11-41), can make it three in a row.
