Lakers Host New-Look Clippers
- Updated: October 19, 2017
The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center for opening night. The Clippers have a new team after the trade of Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets and the signing of forward Danilo Gallinari.
On the other side, the Lakers have got rid of former number two overall pick D’Angelo Russell and instead added the former UCLA Bruin Lonzo Ball to run the show. The Lakers are led by second-year head coach Luke Walton and will look to play a more uptempo style.
Ball will have his hands full going up against defensive monster Patrick Beverly. Austin Rivers and Jordan Clarkson are expected to square off at the shooting guard position. Brandon Ingram looks to take the next step in his game going up against Gallinari and Julius Randle and Blake Griffin will matchup.
Many expert Griffin to have a monster year. Griffin will not be the primary option on offense and the Clippers will also need him to handle some more of the playmaking opportunities. DeAndre Jordan will matchup against Brook Lopez which will be an interesting matchup in itself. Jordan is a more athletic rim protecting, lob catching center while Lopez is the more ground-bound offensive player.
