Lakers Get A Big Lift In Beating The Nets,107-101

@SLAMonline

The eight-game losing streak is now history, as the Los Angeles Lakers get past the Brooklyn Nets, 107-101.

Have a night D’Angelo Russell! The rookie guard scored a career-high 39 points and simply took over as the main power source for the Lakers offensive attack in this game. Russell’s big three pointer with 0:53 left on the clock, was the final nail, that ended the Nets night.

We cannot forget the others in this game and their contributions to this game. Without Kobe Bryant, the Lakers still manage to get some good performances from their players. Jordan Clarkson was the second leading scorer for the team, adding 16 points and dishing out 7 assist, to lead the team in that category. Both Roy Hibbert and Julius Randle notched 14 points each, while Randle had a double-double with 13 rebounds to lead the team on the boards.

The win was the second over the Nets this season, which gives the Lakers a sweep of a season series. When you get a chance and look at the final image of Russell, you will see him pointing to his arm as he stated, “I have ice water in my veins,” this was a very fitting statement and a very clutch performance, from the rookie point guard.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS FROM THE LAKERS:

The win was great and much needed to end the skid but there are still concerns about the Lakers bench. The Nets outscored the Lakers 22-20 in bench scoring. One of the reasons for the lack of bench scoring was Lou Williams, who only played 10 minutes, due to a moderate left hamstring strain. Williams only scored 6 points and he will not travel with the team to Denver for the Lakers next game.

NEXT UP FOR THE LAKERS:

As mentioned earlier, Los Angeles (12-49), will travel to Denver for a meeting with the Nuggets. Kobe Bryant has been sidelined for the past few games, will try to play in Denver for the final time, this season and for the final time in his career. We all remember the game that Kobe had several years ago against the Nuggets, the Febuary 12, 2003, when he went for 51 points on that night. This series is tied at one game a piece with only one more meeting left, in Los Angeles.
