Lakers Fall Short Vs Pistons
- Updated: January 16, 2017
Despite a valiant effort, the Lakers fell by a five-point margin to Detroit Sunday night.
A sellout crowd saw Lou Williams drop 26 off the bench and D’Angelo Russell score 20 in just 26 minutes but in a losing effort.
Morris and Tobias Harris each scored 23 for the Pistons. Andre Drummond grabbed 17 boards to go along with 15 boards for a double-double.
Los Angeles led for much of the first half, but a back-and-forth final 24 minutes ended in Detroit’s favor.
Both teams had near-identical nights from the field, each shooting roughly 43%. The difference was Detroit’s advantage from beyond the arc, edging the Lakers in threes made while taking fewer shots. Los Angeles turned it over 15 times to the Pistons’ seven.
Reggie Jackson gave the Pistons the lead in the final minute and Harris inserted the dagger on the ensuing offensive possession with a triple.
102-97 was your final from the Staples Center.
Los Angeles will host Denver Tuesday night before a home-tilt with the Pacers. LA will get a three-game road-trip underway Sunday with a matchup in Dallas, followed by games in Portland and Utah.
The loss dropped Los Angeles to 15-30 on the season as this disastrous stretch looms on.
The Lakers are 4.5 games out of the West’s final playoff spot.
