Lakers Can’t Surpass Mavericks: L 102-98
- Updated: December 26, 2014
The Los Angeles Lakers took another hit tonight as they lost to the Dallas Mavericks 102-98.
It was the third night in a row that the team has been without their star, Kobe Bryant, due to soreness he was experiencing. You can read more of this story here.
The Lakers were behind the whole game and this hurt them as they tried to make a final push late in the fourth, but it proved to be too little too late. On the bright side, at least it wasn’t another blowout win for the Mavericks….our hearts can’t take that.
The first quarter ended 26-19 in the Mavs favor, and Ed Davis proved to be a key piece of the Lakers puzzle. He dominated on offensive rebounds, drawing fouls and blocking shots.
Turnovers from the first carried through to the second and became an issue for the Lakers. They went into the half down 48-42 with the lead sitting with the opposing team.
A drought occurred after the break and only Ronnie Price was able to add some drizzle to the fifteen point deficit. He condensed the score to 58-45. The Mavericks weren’t fazed and continued their double-digit lead as they closed the quarter 72-62.
Nick Young hit two straight three-pointers and Jordan Hill’s jumper helped to get the Lakers back within 7 points. The issue came with their defense as they were unable to get defensive stops and the Mavs were back into leading with double digits. Just like in Lakers’ fashion, they created a late run, but it was too late and the game ended 102-98.
The Lakers will play the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, December 28.
