Lakers To Aggressively Target Hassan Whiteside
- Updated: June 26, 2016
According to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers are set to make an aggressive push for Hassan Whiteside when he enters free agency.
After reports surfaced that Kevin Durant doesn’t intend to sit down with the Lakers to discuss his next contract, this news can give Lakers fans a glimmer of hope that things will get better soon.
One of their main needs is a rim-protecting Center as they enter a period where they can solve that issue.
The Lakers aren’t alone, however, as the Miami Heat are also going to pull out all of the stops to keep Young Whiteside in South Beach, and the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers are also throwing themselves in the ring.
Whiteside averaged an impressive 14.2 points, 11.8 stunning rebounds and he led the league with 3.7 blocks a game.
Front offices around the league are expecting Hassan Whiteside to ask for a maximum contract. This could mean a request of a first-season salary forecasted in the $22 million range.
The Miami Heat will have to make some major sacrifices if they are to sign Young Whiteside to a deal that satisfies his hopes and desires. A maximum contract for him could land in the range of $94.8 million over four years.
Good news though Lakers fans…
On Friday afternoon (one of my favorite people to follow on Snapchat) posted a cryptic message on the social media channel that said, “I’m a businessman that plays basketball.”
It was on Saturday afternoon that the good news surfaced as ESPN reported that the Lakers plan to aggressively pursue him when free agency opens.
What do you think? Will Hassan Whiteside be rocking the purple and gold next season?
