Lackadaisical Performance Costs Galaxy In Atlanta

Galaxy

There are plenty of things coaches can fix. Something that is entirely up to the players is effort. The Galaxy haven’t shown that for quite a while and they certainly didn’t snap out of it and start something new Wednesday night at Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Through the first 10 minutes of this one though, things were at least looking better. Giovani Dos Santos was opening up play in the final third and getting Gyasi Zardes opportunities while Romain Alessandrini looked dangerous from the wing.

In the first 10 minutes. Then all hope left the building for LA.

Josef Martinez was able to got his foot on a great ball in from Hector Villalba and punch the ball past Galaxy keeper Jon Kempin making it 1-0. From there things just spiraled out of control for the Galaxy.

Goals then came in the 16th and 20th minutes for Atlanta.

A small break in goal scoring came in the 40th minute when Galaxy “captain” Jermaine Jones got a red card for kicking out during a tackle.

But that break wasn’t enough to cool off Atlanta as in the 43rd they got yet another goal making it 4-0 heading into halftime.

The second half saw the Galaxy bunker back and try to hold on to the scoreline. A break the Galaxy needed came in the 82nd minute as Atlanta forward Brandon Vazquez got a red card himself.

However because Los Angeles dropped back on defense for the majority of the second half, trailing by 4 goals with just 8 minutes to go is just too much to overcome.

The Galaxy fell 4-0 in what was a very poor performance from a team that has struggled all season long.

Things will not get any easier for LA who is heading to Kansas City Sunday to take on Sporting Kansas City. Sporting is currently 3rd in the Western Conference and is competing in the US Open Cup Final as this is being written.
