LA Rams Playoff Chances After Week 15
- Updated: December 18, 2019
After 15 weeks in the NFL, the Rams are still in a playoff race. This past Sunday, The Rams needed to win what was essentially a must win game. Unfortunately, they were blown out 44-21 by the Dallas Cowboys. As a result of the Rams loss, the 49ers, Seahawks, and Packers all clinched a playoff spot. The Saints cliched a playoff spot on Thanksgiving, and the NFC East will be determined in the next couple of weeks. With that being said, there is only one playoff spot remaining. The #6 seed. Everything will have to go the Rams way going forward in order to make the playoffs.
First off the Rams will need to travel to San Francisco, and beat the 49ers. That task does not seem as daunting given the Falcons just accomplished it. The last time the Rams and 49ers faced each other, was in Los Angeles, and the 49ers won 20-7. Both teams will have something to play for in this game. While the Rams are looking for a wildcard spot, the 49ers are still looking to win the division. If the Rams can beat the 49ers on Saturday night, they will be scoreboard watching the next day.
The game the Rams will be watching, is Packers vs Vikings. The good news here is the Packers have not won the division yet either, so they will bring their best for this game. The Packers only have a one game lead over the Vikings. The NFC is truly dominant this year. Every team who makes the playoffs from the NFC this year will have ten wins or more. Perhaps the most amazing part in the NFC is the fact that a team could have ten wins, and miss the playoffs. The last time a team won ten games, and did not make the playoffs was the Jets in 2015. The Rams are hoping it happens to the Vikings this year.
If Week 16 goes according to plan, the Rams will host the Cardinals for their season finale in Week 17. The Cardinals have struggled all year as they currently have four wins on the season. When these two teams faced off a few weeks ago in Arizona, the Rams played the best game of their season, and won by a score of 34-7. The Rams will certainly be looking to have a repeat of that game. On top of possible playoff implications, this game against the Cardinals, will be the last game the Rams play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. With all the rich history the NFL has at the Coliseum, the Rams will attempt to make it special for those in attendance.
Should the Rams be able to win out to close their season, and the Vikings lose to the Packers, the Rams will need one more game to fall in their favor. They will need the Vikings to lose at home again. This time, they need the Bears to beat the Vikings. The problem here is the Bears have nothing to play for. The Bears season is over. Their season ended this past Sunday with a loss to the Packers. The Vikings will still be playing for a playoff spot. At the end of the day, the Rams need to win out, and the Vikings must lose out. If that scenario occurs, the Rams will make the playoffs, and play during Wild Card Weekend in January.
As for right now, the Rams still have a chance. However that chance is only 3%. Although anyone will say a 3% chance is better than no chance at all. If the Rams can pull out this miracle, they will have made the playoffs for the third consecutive year under Sean McVay. While the Rams have struggled at this year, and certain games may have been frustrating, or even demoralizing at times, that achievement is special. These next two weeks could be one of the most exciting moments for a Rams fan, or it could be a devastating end to the season.
