LA Rams Hold First Team Meeting

There wasn’t any fancy cards or any welcome home signs for the Los Angeles Rams Thursday afternoon in Manhattan Beach, where they hosted their first team meeting. There wasn’t any news of where summer-camp would be held or announcements of where the Rams temporary headquarters were going to be located. It was simply a progress report that the Rams have officially arrived and are looking for real estate.

“Our focus after the deal was first done was to take care of the players,” said coach Jeff Fisher who was seated in the center with Aaron Donald and Johnny Hekker.

“The first priority was to make sure to get them set up in an offseason program and have a place to train.”

Donald, meanwhile has said he hasn’t spent a lot of time in Los Angeles, only that he’s living in a big city and the business focus remains the same.

“We all know that we have the talent to be the top team in our division for sure,” Donald said. “We just have to go out there and continue to compete. We have a great young team that is still building together but I feel that we have so many playmakers on special teams; on defense and offense.”

“For this team to get to the next level we just need to jump on it together”

It was only five years ago Hekker was punting at the Coliseum for Oregon State. Now Hekker’s journey has led him back to Los Angeles where the Rams will be playing its first two seasons.

“Playing at the Coliseum, the history jumps out at you. It’s kind of the Lambeau of the college game,” Hekker said. “It’s an unbelievable building with the pillars on the one end with just fans everywhere. It’s a pretty loud stadium and just getting to realize that your vantage point down on the field has been shared by some pretty incredible athletes in the history of that building.”

“The fact we get to call the Coliseum home for the next few years is a huge blessing and we’re going to do our best to add our own history to that stadium.”

As fans in Los Angeles continued to get used to having the NFL back after 21 years, the moving process continues for the members and family members of the Rams organization. The Rams will begin spring OTAs on April 18 and end June 17 in Oxnard at the same facility the Dallas Cowboys use for summer-camp.

Until then as the options remain open at the table as to where the Rams will practice in summer, the pressure is on immediately for an organization that hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2004. Aaron Donald feels the Rams are ready to be a Super Bowl contender.

“We have the talent to make it to the next level.” Donald said. “We just have to stick together and stay healthy. We got all the tools we need to make it to the next level and it is time to make it happen.”
