The LA Kings used a balanced attack scoring in all three periods tonight to skate past the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 Saturday night. After a dominant performance against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night the LA Kings looked to build off the momentum.
Dwight King scored the opening goal in the first period. He scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Jeff Carter and Robyn Regehr. The Kings controlled the first period with 9 shots on goal to the Avalanche’s 3. At the end of one the Kings led 1-0.
In the second period Ryan O’Reilly scored a tip-in shot that tied the game. Gabriel Landeskog and Alex Tanguay assisted on the goal. Alec Martinez answered the call with a goal of his own to give the Kings a 2-1 advantage. Tyler Toffoli and Carter were credited with the assist. After two periods the Kings lead 2-1.
In the third period the Avalanche knocked on the door early but Jonathan Quick made some great saves. With the game in the balance Marian Gaborik scored a slap shot that gave the Kings a little room for comfort. Anze Kopitar and Regehr assisted on the goal.
The Kings controlled the game and Quick didn’t have to do too much. He made 9 saves for the Kings. For Colorado Semyon Varlamov recorded 23 saves but it wasn’t enough to give his team the victory.
Up next for the Kings they will take on the Vancouver Canucks on the road on Monday night.
