Los Angeles, Calif-
For 4,000 fans at Microsoft Theater, Thursday was a holiday as the final decision to symbolize the Rams arrival was made. Jared Goff was selected first overall and the day’s festivities were kicked off by appearances from Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk and other Rams players including Robert Quinn and captain Johnny Hekker.
The joy carried from Figueroa to Flower united that not only are the Rams here, from came to win.
“There is a lot of things you look at in terms of selecting a quarterback,” general manager Les Snead said. “But the thing that I liked about Jared most was when he picked up the phone well getting selected was his confidence.”
As Goff put it in his first interview as a member of the Los Angeles Rams: “I’m ready to be the difference.”
For anyone old enough to remember what it was like to have an NFL team in Los Angeles, it felt like a homecoming parade. For others, it was a chance to get antiquated with the team that will be sharing Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the next three seasons.
Rolling Hills Estates resident Randy Troy will most likely be living at the Coliseum for the eight Sundays of Rams football well-being a devoted season ticket holder to USC football./
“I’m so fired up for this city right now,” Troy said. “To go from heartbreak to being part of the biggest party in town is an amazing feeling.”
Tom Bateman who started the Bring Back the Rams foundation in 2012 is also reaping the glory of having the team he grew up loving as a child back home. Bateman’s organization helped bring thousands of fans together through Facebook and Instagram.
“This is a culmination of all the hard work we the fans put in,” Bateman said. “Now it is our job to continue to show this team the love and support. The real work is just beginning.”
Before the Rams drafted Goff, COO Kevin Demoff said “the quarterback we choose will have to not only the skill set, but the swagger and toughness. We believe that franchise player is in this draft.”
Goff is now the new quarterback for the LA Rams and the potential face for a city that not so long ago was almost content with not having an NFL franchise. The chips are on the table and now the Rams behind Goff will be out to prove that they were worth the 22 year wait.
