LA Clippers Win Season Series Against San Antonio Spurs

LA Clippers

Despite an awful start, the LA Clippers managed to pull through and get back into the game in an eventual win over the San Antonio Spurs 108-105 to seal the season series 3-1. It had all the makings of a usual comeback for this Clippers squad, much like their earlier comeback efforts against Boston, Houston, and Oklahoma City. The win also cemented the best record through fifty-games in franchise history, just another new mark for the new Clippers.

It did not seem like the type of game the Clippers could win from the outset, however. When they let up thirty-nine points in the first quarter, nothing was clicking for anyone. Luckily for the Clippers, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were on the court to save face. Kawhi dropped twenty-two points and Paul contributed with twelve rebounds. Sadly, Kawhi’s streak of consecutive thirty-plus point games ended at nine, but that puts him second in Clippers franchise history for the category. He fell just three games behind tying World B. Free‘s eleven consecutive games with thirty points or more.

On top of the offense that both Kawhi and Paul brought, the rest of the team brought much better defense come the second half. Despite not cashing in on multiple steals and rebound opportunities, the Spurs potent offense fell off hard after the first half, so the Clippers hung around long enough to give themselves the chance to win. Patrick Beverley was a crucial piece to this game with his early and late three-pointers on top of his defensive efforts, and JaMychal Green had a much better effort alongside Beverley as well with seven rebounds and nine points. Lesser players in this game like Landry Shamet and Ivica Zubac still had their fair share of rebounds and crucial assists, so it was an overall improvement on team effort all throughout.

At the end of the day, this game’s MVP would easily be Paul George. The man took an elbow straight to the face and managed to come back out to hit both free-throws he attained from that, and then he would remain in the game to hit the game-sealing bucket. His energy was intense even when he struggled early on, so there is no doubt that he put the team on his back to lead them back up from fifteen-points down. Even with LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMar DeRozan, and Patty Mills all throwing in solid double-digit efforts, it was no match for the performance that PG put out there. Even in the regular season, he is dawning his “Playoff P” name.

To summarize, the LA Clippers came back from multiple deficits thanks to Paul George and his intensity while Kawhi Leonard and Patrick Beverley secured the game with more of the usual buckets. It seems to be a reoccurring theme that Paul George and Kawhi Leonard become the stars of this team when healthy, and long-suffering Clippers fans are living for it. The Clips will return tomorrow to play the Miami Heat in their last home game of this stretch before embarking on a four-game road swing heading east. That game will start at 7:00 PM PDT at the Staples Center.
