Kyle Kubitza Makes Debut, Angels Lose 4-2

Kyle Kubitza made his major league debut and recorded two hits but made some rookie mistakes and the Angels fell 4-2. With the loss the series is even at 1-1, after the Angels beat the Rays yesterday 8-2.
Jered Weaver got the start for the Angels and almost pitched a complete game. He last 7.2 innings allowing 8 hits and 4 runs. He also struck out 1 and walked 3 as he picked up his 6th loss of the year.
On the other side Erasmo Ramirez got the start for the Rays. He pitched 5 innings allowing 5 hit and 2 runs. He struck out 3 and walked none. He was awarded his 5th win of the season.
The Rays got the offense started in the 2nd inning when Kevin Kiermaier hit a RBI single to right field that brought in Asdrubal Cabrera. Joey Butler followed by reaching on a fielder’s choice that allowed Nick Franklin to score and the Rays held a 2-0 advantage.
In the 3rd inning the Angels responded with 2 runs of their own. Erick Aybar hit a RBI single to right field that brought in C.J. Cron. Kubitza tripped on his way to second and was tagged on in a run down. Mike Trout hit a single that raised his RBI total to 34 on the year and the game was tied at 2 heading into the bottom of the 3rd.
Evan Longoria hit his 6th home run of the year in the 3rd inning. A solo shot to left that gave the Rays a 3-2 lead. Cabrera hit a ground-rule double in the 8th that brought in Steven Souza and the Rays held a 4-2 advantage.
Jake McGee came on in the 9th for the Rays and picked up his first save of the year.
The Angels and Rays will wrap up their series tomorrow night at 4:10 p.m. PST
