Kole Calhoun Hits Bomb, Lifts Angels Over A’s 2-0

Kole Calhoun got the only hit of the game for the Los Angeles Angels but he made it count as the Halos beat the Oakland A’s 2-0. After a series that showed offensive clinics for both sides the pitching came to play today.
Nick Tropeano got the start for the Angels. He pitched 6 innings allowing 5 hits and no runs while striking out 5. He was awarded his win of the season.
For the A’s Jesse Chavez got the start. He allowed the only hit the A’s gave up but it was a 2-run shot. Chavez pitched 6 innings allowing 1 hit and 2 runs, only 1 of the runs were earned and he stuck out 4. Chavez was awarded the loss in his first start of the season.
Calhoun’s home run came in the 3rd inning as he sent one to right field. It brought in Drew Butera and the Angels held that 2-0 lead the whole game.
Fernando Salas and Joe Smith pitched scoreless innings for the Halos. Huston Street came on in the 9th and shut the club down for his 5th save of the year.
The Angels will open up their series with the Texas Rangers tomorrow night at home at 7:05 p.m. PST.
