Knicks Add To Clippers Misery In 107-85 Drubbing
- Updated: November 20, 2017
Coming into Madison Square Garden Monday night the Los Angeles Clippers were staring down an 8 game losing streak.
Not much has gone right for Los Angeles on this skid but Monday presented an opportunity. Injury has been a problem during this slide and the return of starting Point Guard Patrick Beverly provided some hope heading into the contest.
An even first quarter saw the game knotted up at 20 and provided what many Clippers fans were hoping for. The three ball was falling early and the team started off the game going 4-4 from beyond the arc. The team was spreading the ball around and everybody from Wesley Johnson to Blake Griffin were connecting on open shots.
The second quarter had a very different look. The Knicks at one point got on a 23-4 run and left the Clippers stumbling for answers on both ends of the court. Knicks star forward Kristaps Porzingis got it going in this second and kept it rolling all night long. Porzingis finished this game with 25 points and 7 rebounds and even got involved on the defensive end with 2 steals and 2 blocks.
Porzingis drew the assignment of Griffin for the night and the matchup was a fun one to watch. While Porzingis won the matchup a couple of times on the defensive end, Griffin didn’t have a bad game when it was all said and done. Closing out his night with 21 points along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Many of those points came in the third quarter where Los Angeles got on a 15-0 run to get the game within 2 points. The game didn’t stay that close for long though as New York followed up the Clippers scoring spree with one of their own subsequently going on a 12-0 run.
From there things just got worse for Los Angeles and the game never got within 10 points again. The Knicks cruised through the final quarter with a 107-85 victory.
A 9 game losing streak now for the Clippers as this torrid stretch continues. Los Angeles will take on the Atlanta Hawks next on Wednesday but they’re likely going to get the same result if players not named Griffin don’t step up and do their part. Other than Griffin only three other Clippers scored in double-figures, Jordan (10), Johnson (13) and Reed (10). The Knicks on the other hand had 6 players in double-figures, 5 of which came from their starting lineup.
Thanks for reading along Clipper Nation, hopefully we have a better result to discuss Wednesday.
