Kings Sluggish in 5-1 Loss to Senators
- Updated: October 14, 2018
Good morning bright eyes.
Time to play a hockey game?
But it’s 11 a.m., sunny Southern California time!
Whether it was the morning goo in their collective eyes, or they just didn’t have it this day, the Los Angeles Kings showed up sluggish in a disappointing 5-1 loss against the Ottawa Senators, Saturday.
The LA squad is now 2-2-1, and two points behind Pacific Division leaders Anaheim Ducks. Next up is the streaking Toronto Maple Leafs, at 4:30 p.m., Monday, October 15 in Toronto.
On Saturday, Kings netminder Jack Campbell, coming off his first shutout of his professional career, was shown the showers (as well as taken out of the game) after giving up four goals on 11 shots halfway through the contest. That’s right – a .636 save percentage didn’t cut it. (Peter Budaj came in for relief, saving 10 of 11.)
A bright spot arrived at 15:53 of the second period, as Kings defenseman Drew Doughty fired a long-distance pass to Trevor Lewis at the Senator blue line. After taking it to his backhand, Lewis slid it into the net, posting his first goal of the season.
A Kings’ power play at the end of the second netted no goals though most of it was spent in the offensive zone. Whereas another Kings’ goal would have made it interesting, another Senator goal – at 11:03 of the third on Chris Wideman‘s second of the game – made it just another early morning blah loss.
For the Senators, the team is now 2-2-1, five points behind the Maple Leafs, after goalie Craig Anderson made 36 saves on 37 shots in the victory.
For the Kings? Nap time.
