Kawhi Leonard scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help the San Antonio Spurs rally back and beat the Los Angeles Clippers 89-85. Leonard, who was the NBA Finals MVP tied his career high with 26 and did it in an un-Spur like fashion.

While the Spurs are known for playing team basketball, moving the ball where everyone gets a touch, Grep Popovitch drew up a few plays for Leonard and boy did it pay off. Kawhi Leonard missed a significant amount of tie due to conjunctivitis which is a highly contagious infection in his right eye.

Leonard told ESPN this about his eye:

“It’s just that my vision isn’t 100 percent yet,” Leonard said. “But I’m just playing games trying to get used to it, and hopefully it will just blow past.

The Clippers had a fourth quarter lead and it looked as if they would walk away with a victory over the defending champs. However, the Spurs used a 14-3 run in the quarter to take the lead and ultimately win the game.

Tim Duncan scored 18 points and added 11 rebounds, while Tony Parker chipped in 13 points.  The Spurs shooting continuing to struggle as they shot just 2/19 from behind the arc.

For the Clippers Blake Griffin had a solid all around game. He scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists. Chris Paul was an assist away from a triple double. He scored 12 points, collected 10 rebounds, and dished out 9 assists.

Blake Griffin had this to say about the loss:

“We definitely let that win slip away,” Griffin said. “I had two bad turnovers at a critical time. With all that, we still had a chance to tie it up and force overtime. It’s a lesson; we’ve got to keep fighting.”

The Clippers will have the rest of the week to prepare for the next opponent, the Phoenix Suns. They will take on the Suns at Staples Center on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
