Justin Upton Lifts Padres Over Arizona

Last night’s game showed just how much the Padres can dominate in a game. They beat the Arizona Diamondback 7-2.

Andrew Cashner kicked off the pitching for the Padres and after three strikes the Padres moved to bat.

Jeremy Hellickson began pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks and he helped Matt Kemp double to left. Yangervis Solarte stepped up to the plate, grounded out to second, and helped Kemp move to third. Then came Yonder Alonso who singled to center which pushed Kemp to score. Dereck Norris grounded out to shortstop, and Alonso scored. The Padres were up 2-0.

It was the Dbacks time to score in the top of the third. David Peralta doubled to right which helped Paul Goldschmidt to score. Yasmani Torres then doubled to left and Peralta scored. Tie game.

The Sacramento Bee wrote the following regarding the recap:

“I have to make a better pitch to that guy in that situation,” said Hellickson.

Matt Kemp and Yangervis Solarte added insurance runs with RBI singles off Randall Delgado in the sixth inning. That came after Will Venable raced home on Cashner’s bunt single that chased Hellickson from the game.

Marcos Mateo and Kevin Quackenbush each tossed 1-2-3 innings out of the bullpen to secure the win for San Diego.”
