Justin Ruggiano Becomes Free Agent

According to Mark Saxon of ESPN.com Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Justin Ruggiano has elected free agency rather than being designated for assignment.

Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register also reported the news.

Ruggiano was selected in the 25th round of the 2004 MLB draft by the Dodgers. He has spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Chicago Cubs,  and Seattle Mariners before joining the Dodgers at the end of this season.

He became a starter for the Dodgers in some games against left-handed hitters during the end of the season. In his short time with the Dodgers he hit .291 with 4 home runs and 4 doubles. He appeared in 21 games for the club.

Ruggiano will most likely be looking for a starting job this offseason somewhere or at least a rotational outfielder spot. With the depth the Dodgers have in the outfield it would be very tough for Ruggiano to find time on the field.

As more information surfaces on the Dodgers and their offseason moves we will keep you up to date.
