Jordan, Mavericks Narrowly Escape Clippers 114-110

Clippers

Over the last couple of seasons the Los Angeles Clippers have gotten used to seeing former team royalty suited up to go against them. While seeing many of those stars in opposing jerseys has always felt a bit different, none in franchise history have ever donned the Red, white and blue as long or as passionately as DeAndre Jordan.

Jordan shook hands and chatted it up with his former teammates and coaches prior to tip-off, but once the game got underway it was back to business as the first placed Clippers took on Jordan’s Mavericks.

Dallas had their shots falling early on but luckily for Los Angeles Danilo Gallinari had his going in as well. Gallinari finished the first quarter with 14 points and was knocking down shots from every area of the floor. Gallinari cooled off after his scorching start but still managed to finish the game with 21, leading all starters.

The Mavericks had a scorer of their own get off to a fiery start but it probably isn’t who you’d expect. JJ Barea floated around the court for most of the first half and would wind up with 20 in the opening half alone. Barea finished his night with 24 points and the 34 year-old guard continued to be a thorn in the Clippers side throughout the contest.

In what was a challenging game for Tobias Harris, the Clippers needed their scoring to come from other spots. Doc Rivers called on the bench warriors of Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell to step up. Williams helped out in more ways than one, putting up 21 points and a team-high 8 assists. Meanwhile Harrell continued his torrid start to the season, despite going up against a stout Mavericks frontcourt. Harrell finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds doing most of his damage in the final quarter, despite having 5 fouls for the majority of the quarter.

One area where Jordan and the Mavericks dominated the game was on the glass. Dallas won the rebounding battle by an astounding 20, instantly reminding Los Angeles what they’ve been missing since the departure of Jordan last offseason. Jordan finished with a double-double consisting of 23 boards and 16 points.

Despite some late game heroics by Williams and Harrell Los Angeles wouldn’t be able to overcome the rebounding deficit and would fall in this one 114-110.

Not much time to dwell on this one for the Clippers as they’re heading to New Orleans to take on Anthony Davis and the Pelicans tomorrow night.
