Is Craig Kimbrel Heading To NY? TX?

The San Diego Padres have only been “owners” of Craig Kimbrel for a few short months. That deal came together a few hours before the trade deadline in April. It’s starting to look like this one will be no different.

According to ESPN.com, Craig Kimbrel has been the topic of overnight conversation which could send him to the Yankees or the Houston Astros. The discussions involved potential prospects and deciding which teams would be responsible for the remaining $29 million of his contract.

A source close to ESPN reports that the Yankees aren’t being shy about taking on his contract, but they are hesitant to deal their coveted prospects (pitcher Luis Severino, outfielder Aaron Judge or first baseman Greg Bird).

The Houston Astros step in to complete a bigger deal for the Padres. This would include sending Craig Kimbrel and either Tyson Ross or Andrew Cashner to TX. It is unclear how much the Astros can “absorb” in a trade with San Diego.

We will have to wait to see how this one rounds itself out. Keep checking back!
