CaliSports News discusses the San Diego Padres top 5 prospects:
“Following the flurry of moves by General Manager A.J. Preller, the San Diego Padres have traded away 9 of their top 20 prospects, according to MLB.com. The Padres had one of the best Farm Systems in baseball prior to the many moves. Overall, the Padres still have a fairly strong system but let’s take a look at the Top 5 prospects in the San Diego Padres organization!
5) Jose Rondon – Shortstop Bio: Born March 3rd, 1994. Bats: Right Throws: Right
Signed as an International Free Agent in 2011
Scouting Report: Jose Rondon was acquired in the Huston Street trade with the Los Angeles Angels. He was signed out of Venezuela in 2011. Rondon is a smooth-fielding, top of the lineup shortstop. He has a solid speed tool and a plus-hit tool. He has quick hands which helps him make consistent contact. In the minor leagues, he’s shown an ability to get on base with a .356 OBP which makes him a great table setter at the top of a lineup. He has above-average speed although it hasn’t translated to gaudy stolen base numbers. Rondon has soft, quick hands at shortstop which makes him a good defender. He projects to be a league-average middle infielder, who will be the staple at the top of a lineup. ETA:2017″
