We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the San Diego Padres.
Wil Myers hit a RBI double in the eighth inning which would serve to be the game winning run as the Padres beat the Giants in the second game of the series 1-0:
“Brandon Morrow got the start for the Padres and was dominant. He pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits while striking out 7. He was able to chop down the defending champs lineup as he got no run support.
Myers provided the only run of the game in the eighth that scored Clint Barmes and Joaquin Benoit was credited with the win. He pitched the eighth inning for the Frias.
For the Giants Tim Linecum got the start. He had an excellence performance as he too pitched 7 innings allowing four hits while striking out 5. This game was a pitchers duel a lot like last night and he was credited with the no decision.”

Check out CaliSports News writer, Sean Stone’s thoughts on the Craig Kimbrel acquisition:
“The time is now. Whether he is right about that will become clearer now that meaningful baseball is being played again, but what isn’t in question is Kimbrel’s quality. Whereas other recent acquisitions like Matt Kemp have notable flaws, Kimbrel does not. The Braves didn’t offload him because they were concerned about his hips, but because they are in exactly the opposite situation as the Padres. Until their new stadium is finished they appear to be in rebuild and save money mode, and since they probably won’t hold many late leads this season, Kimbrel wouldn’t have much value for them.
Clearly Preller is expecting the Padres to have several late leads this season, and the issue his offensive upgrades has created is related to holding leads, as the outfield defense projects to be below average at best. Solving the offensive problem created the defensive problem.”
